The Groveâs bar scene has always been more than a night out. Since the 1980s, queer pioneers, business owners, and community leaders have helped shape this neighborhood into a place where people can gather safely, celebrate boldly, and feel seen.
Trailblazers
Trailblazers like Jann Brigulio, who founded Attitudes in 1988 (one of the oldest gay clubs that remained under original ownership), and Nancy Nocak, who opened Freddieâs in 1990, helped shape The Grove into the welcoming, joyful, and expressive neighborhood we know today.
The legacy continues today
From longtime LGBTQAI+ spaces and neighborhood favorites to fresh cocktails, patios, dance floors, and late-night stops, The Grove continues to be a district rooted in connection and celebration of Pride.
