Open Streets and Halloween in the Grove
Come celebrate open streets and Halloween in the Grove this year! On Saturday, October 29 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., St. Louis City will be hosting Open Streets, an event promoting healthy and active living and community building by closing streets to motor vehicles and opening them to pedestrians and cyclists. Last year, St. Louis City hosted four Open Street events throughout the city, but this year, the City has chosen two unique neighborhoods, Old North and the Grove, to condense the event and make them more impactful.
The route which will be open for residents and visitors to reclaim their streets and get to know the community will run along Manchester between Sarah and Newstead, Newstead between Manchester and Clayton, and Clayton between Newstead and Forest Park. The bulk of the activities will be concentrated along Newstead and Manchester, which will include hubs hosted by neighborhood organizations and institutions including St. Louis Language Immersion Schools, LGBT Center, Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club, and more to be announced. Activity hubs will incorporate a range of family-friendly activities, including dance classes, yoga, scavenger hunts, haunted houses, free bike-repair, live screen-printing, live music, costume contests and more.
In addition, businesses and organizations along Manchester will be accepting trick-or-treaters between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will be giving out healthy snacks or non-edible knick-knacks.
At 7 p.m., the route will be condensed to Manchester Avenue and will transition to a more adult-oriented street party into the night.
